Looking for fun things to do nearby in July

We are staying at this resort in July. We have 2 children ages 6 and 10 and are looking for some fun activities nearby. We have never been to the Smoky Mountain and don't have a clue about the area. ( This was about the only resort still available because we did not book right away, so it leads me to believe this is not a very popular resort)
