Passports for St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Island???

We live in Washington State (U.S.) and we checked with the U.S. Homeland Security - who told us that we don't need passports for the St. Thomas U.S. Virgin Islands. We are going to Marriott's Frenchman's Cove June 13, 2009... and I just wanted to double check with anyone who might know of something different about passports. There's my husband and I, then a 17 and 15 year old boys. Please advise - THANK YOU!

we just returned from st thomas in april and did not have a passport for our 11-year old. you will be asked for a picture id or birth certificate for each minor when you come through customs in st thomas when you are returning.
