Puff, Poof. Timeshares Not Up in Smoke

Aug 06, 2009

Woody Cary, president of Tricom Management, spoke with Platinum Interchange about the popularity of non-smoking policies being implemented at timeshare resorts throughout the U.S. Woody Cary says, “More timeshare resorts are going smoke free. All of the Tricom managed resorts are now smoke free. The Boards of Directors at the various Tricom resorts voted over the past few years to opt for smoke free suites and common areas with designated smoking areas. As a property resort management company, we encouraged and supported the Boards to pass this new non-smoking policy for the betterment of the guests’, owners’ and team members’ health as well as the long-term care of the properties. By prohibiting smoking in the suites and in common areas such as hallways, balconies, etc., the primary and most important issue being addressed is helping the health of others. And, some secondary issues being addressed, as a result of the smoke free policies, are: significantly reducing the maintenance on rooms and common areas, helping the environment and saving the Associations’ money.” As more and more timeshare resorts are considering adopting similar policies like Tricom managed resorts, consider this next time you are traveling. Inquire with the exchange company you are working with concerning the resort’s smoking policy or call the resort directly. Sometimes exchange companies, like Platinum Interchange (www.platinuminterchange.com), don’t always know the most current resort policies. We do our best to obtain this information and post it on our Resort Directory page on our website; however, with the thousands of timeshare resorts we cannot always stay current on policies, such as non-smoking. It’s best to prepare in advance when traveling, so you don’t encounter any problems once you arrive at the resort. As the smoke free policies are being implemented on a more global basis, resorts are also adopting penalties if you violate the policy and smoke in non-designated areas, according to Woody Cary. When in doubt, ask the resort about their smoking policy and be clear on the designated areas to avoid any possible penalties or worse yet being asked to vacate the property. For more information on how to get your timeshare resort to adopt a non-smoking policy, please call Tricom Management @ (714) 777-3700 and ask for Woody Cary. Or, visit www.tricommanagement.com and email with questions.

Very true .... even with non-smoking units many people will smoke on outside balconies or lanais and the smoke enters other units or to others sitting on their balconies. What should happen is that all resorts should have a non-smoking policy anywhere on the resort premises .... if people have to smoke they'll have to leave the resort to do so ...... inhaling second hand smoke can be a life threatening situation for many people.
