Use it or Lose it. Your Timeshare Week

Timeshare owners receive seven nights per week of ownership. Woody Cary, president of Tricom Management, said “In order to book and receive a reservation, owners must be attentive to the booking window of their home resort.” Call your home resort for your booking window to prevent loss of your week. Most booking windows are 10 months or more, which gives owners ample time to obtain a week. Woody Cary suggested, “Our best advice to timeshare owners is to book your ownership week as soon as your booking window is available; regardless if you know, at the time, you can or cannot use your week.”

As the founder of the first timeshare management company in California, Tricom Management (est. 1979), and as one of the industry gurus, Woody Cary suggested the following- “In the event owners cannot use their week at their home resort, owners have numerous alternatives to use their timeshare in other ways: 1) Owners may have friends and family use their week, 2) Donate their week to a charity or organization, 3) Rent their week privately or through a Rental company, or 4) Exchange their week through an Exchange company. Whichever alternative an owner chooses, the booking window takes precedent ensuring use of the week and preventing loss of the week. Book your ownership week first. Second, determine how to use the week?” Use it, Don’t Lose it!

Timeshare is exactly that, sharing time; attempting to book a week past the start of the booking window increases the chances of losing your week as fellow timeshare owners have already booked at the beginning of the booking window. Calling an hour, a day, a week, and/or a month past the start of the booking window may be detrimental in obtaining a week of interest or a week at all. Most Rental & Exchange programs require a minimum of 90 days (prior to the start date of a week) to be accepted. Falling short of the booking window may result in additional costs and/or restrictions.

If you haven’t already, USE, Don’t Lose!
