Marriott's Ocean Pointe

Ocean Pointe Beach - no lounge chairs for any guests limits access for those with special needs and larger guests

Nov 27, 2013

While Marriott Ocean Pointe has a wooden ramp as required by ADA to get guests with special needs to the beach, access stops there. Unlike other resorts on this same beach, including Marriott's Oceana Palms, it no longer offers lounge chairs for any guests. This means that those with transfer difficulties or larger guests cannot rent chairs that meet there needs. The only chairs offered are 18.5 inches wide with arms. A standard Marriott lounge chair is 24 inches wide. The beach vendor wants to offer the same wooden lounge chairs but this resort reports issues with "fines" for offering such lounges. While that may be the case during limited turtle nesting seasons, Marriott management is not allowing the lounge chairs for all guests during any season. Those with special needs need to request other accommodations to meet their needs.
