Donating rimeshares

Does anyone have experience donating their timeshare to charity? Can you advise?

Or does anyone know a reputable company for getting out of a deed. We are Manhattan Club owners and will do anything to get rid of it. Thanks

Those companies that claim they want you to donate your timeshare want thousands of dollars upfront. Donate for a Cause is under federal charges for fraud according to Timesharing Toady.. I wouldn't touch any company that claims they want your timeshare for a donation. NEVER pay anyone money upfront that claims they will take your timeshare off your hands.

There are no charities that will accept a timeshare as a donation. There are a few organizations that will charge you a large fee (several hundred to several thousand dollars depending on how hard they think it will be to "dispose of"), donate a very small portion of that very large fee to charity and then attempt to sell or give your timeshare away on ebay or such. If no one wants it they will try to deed it to someone or some LLC that will not pay the MF's. Your hoa may not accept such a transfer and you may be out your large fee, still own the timeshare and have succeeded in donating $10 or something quite nominal to a charity.

A better, cheaper way would be to try to give it away yourself. Try advertising here on RedWeek or other reputable sites such as E-Bay, My Resort Network, Craigslist, or Timeshare Users Group (aka "TUG; tugbbs.com). Advertise that you are willing to let it go for $1 or less. if you are giving it away for free and "will do anything to get rid of it", offer to pay the closing costs (about $200) and maybe even the next maintenance fee. That will work out a lot cheaper than paying a charity thousands of dollars to take it off your hands. You just might have to be patient and put forth a little effort.
