Reviews of Island Links Resort
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina
Just returned from a very enjoyable long weekend at Island Links. The unit itself was very clean and very comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked. The den area was roomy with plenty of comfortable seating. The pool(s) and hot tub areas are very well kept and nice. I had to use some business services and the on site staff was very helpful. Port Royal Plantation is a beautiful area. Looking forward to a return visit!
This was a nice resort with friendly staff. The check-in was fairly quick. After checking in, you are steered towards timeshare salespeople who try to sign you up for a tour. I explained that we already owned two and couldn't use another and that was the end of it (no pressure). Our salesperson gave me a great deal on golf balls retrieved from course ponds by a diver he knows. For buying them, he also gave me some golf coupons which got my 12 year old son and I a round of golf with cart at an Arnold Palmer designed course (Crescent Pointe) for $54 (kids play their age - $12 for a 12 year old).
The units were well laid out, quite spacious, and clean. Ours was a three bedroom unit on the ground floor of one of the three story buildings. Generally, we didn't notice noise from other units, except for the footsteps of kids in the unit above us that we nicknamed "the thunder kids". The kitchen was well equipped, but lacked a kettle so we had to boil water for tea in a pot. The master bedroom ensuite bath was quite large with a big corner bath and large shower. We quickly bought all our own toiletries as there was no shampoo provided and the toilet paper and tissue were of poor quality. Bar soap was provided. The master bedroom did not have a window to the outside. It was attached to another bedroom by double doors which, if you left them open, would allow natural light from the adjacent bedroom. The sheets on all the beds were very thin or worn out. We raised this issue with staff, fully expecting that if all the sheets were like that, the problem would not be addressed. I guess that was the case because they only sent someone in to remake the bed, apparently with the same thin sheets. The beds were not very comfortable. One of our pet peeves was the lack of recycle facilities. They apparently expect people to take their recycle to an off-site recycle facility, should they chose to spend the time hunting for it on their vacation.
Each unit had wired and wireless internet access that seemed fast enough most of the time, but struggled with movie trailers. The signal strength is excellent as each room has its own wireless router and "network" (you join the network named after your room number). The main clubhouse also had a computer room, where I went once to print 4 pages of AAA maps on their black and white printer (complimentary). There were several terminals and I never noticed anyone waiting for one.
The pools at this resort were great, with excellent water quality. The smaller pool seemed a little warmer than the large pool, but both were very comfortable in the hot South Carolina July weather. Guests must supply their own pool towels. The nice thing about that is that you can tell if a chair is really taken, not just covered with pool towels by a group that has long since left the pool.
The grounds were nice, but not outstanding. The landscaping was nicer on the entrance driveway and around the clubhouse than around the units. Off our back patio, we had patchy grass and bare dirt that became a mud puddle when it rained. They should work on the gardening around the units. There seemed to be adequate numbers of BBQs, as they were never all in use at once.
The parking spaces in front of the units were unpaved and insufficient in number, especially around the three story buildings. We had to park in front of a two story building some distance away on a few occasions.
The resort seemed to have activities around the pool area, but we only attended the complimentary wine and cheese party, where they had door prize draws.
Apart from the pools, a small fitness room, and the computer room, this resort had few on-site amenities. Guests had access to the Westin indoor pool, fitness centre, and beach via a free shuttle; but these were off-site amenities, not exactly convenient. My wife and daughter took the shuttle to the beach once, but otherwise we went to public beaches. The resort is surrounded by a golf course, but it did not seem to be a part of the resort. The resort was convenient to the island's extensive cycling path system.
In summary, this was a nice resort with friendly staff, but did not have the level of quality and amenities we have come to expect from a RCI Gold Crown resort. We think a Silver Crown ranking would be more appropriate. This was a nice base for a visit to HHI and we would gladly return.
My husband, myself and 4 year old son stayed here during the week of August 18th with our friends and their 10 year old daughter. There was more than enough room for the 6 of us. This was probably one of the nicest timeshares I have stayed in. And I've stayed in many. The BR unit was huge! The biggest we've ever stayed in. Even the living and dining area was huge. It came complete with everything! If I brought the rest of my clothes, I could have just lived here without buying anything else. The kitchen came complete with all the plates, cups, bowls (2 different sizes) for a service for 12. It was extremely clean and nothing was damaged or broken. The pool is fabulous. Zero Entry, raining umbrellas, waterfall. We couldn't get our kids out of the pool.
It is located right next door to Port Royal Plantation which is great if you like playing golf. The live oak trees are beautiful and provide much needed shade during the hot summer months. There are also wonderful walking/jogging paths through Port Royal. You also get access to use The workout facility at the Westin which was terrific. Had everyting you could possibly want. Can also take part in their exercise classes. They give you 1 parking pass per unit for the Westin. While you cannot use the Westin's pool, it didn't matter to us as the Island Links pool was much nicer. The best thing is that you can park at the Westin and have access to the beach (which is really where we wanted to be). The beach was beautiful and the surf was not rough. It was also great having the Westin there because we ate lunch at their outside restaurant every day. The food was fabulous. Definitely get the lobster salad.
The only negative is that it was extremely hot during August and there were many jellyfish in the ocean. Everyone got stung except for my son. Also, many mosquitos so don't forget the bug spray. And they don't spray anything to kill red ants so be sure to stay on the paved areas.
We would definitely return to Hilton Head as it is a beautiful area, but would go at a cooler time. I would definitely stay at the Island Links resort again.
Very pleased with remodeled unit and the staff at the resort. The grounds were superb (located in the pinetrees) and the facilities were very well kept (new pool).
Spent the week of July 20, 2007 at the resort. The new buildings are 3 story with elevators and have 3 BR units in them. Great. Good size, w/d, trash chute, 4 TVS, full kitchen supplies. The buildings that are only 2 story do not have elevators. Also, these folks walk quite a ways for the trash dumpster. Check in was very long as they read every paper to you. The arrangement with Westin parking is limited and may be d/c without notice while you are there if Westin has other plans. The shuttle worked out okay but we didn't know till we got all the way down to the Westin. Pool area nice. Activites fair.
Just returned from a wonderful stay at Island Links. Had a three bedroom villa - spacious, clean, 4 TV's, 2 bath --we had 6 of us staying there and had plenty of room. Week was cooler but still had plenty of sunshine and enjoyed the heated pools. Rented bikes for the week and had a great time pedalling along the bike paths. Visited the Westin a couple times, great beach - disappointed that amenities did not include use of outdoor pool and lounge chairs. . .Also was misled that golf was included - this is only for owners within this resort. We grilled outdoors several times, never a wait, was clean and easily accessible. Overall, nice place. . . look forward to returning.
Absolutely beautiful.Great island decor, clean and and wonderful location. Can't beat the amenities at Westin either. Under new management/owner now , so didn't know what it was like before. We loved it.
We have been very happy at Island Links. We were anxiously awaiting the pool renovation, and it was recently completed. We just stayed a couple weeks ago with our family and they loved it. The new pool is really nice. Actually a very good pool for older kids and babies. The rooms are quite a bit nicer than any of the condos we've stayed in prior to our Island Links purchase.
We are owners here and come several times each year. It is a beautiful resort with miles and miles of paved bike paths. You can actually bike to anywhere on the island. We really enjoy the ammenities at the Westin oceanfront resort. They have several pools and hot tubs, a pool bar and an outdoor restuarant. They also have entertainment, in season. Our kids love it here. The beach is really nice!
Our unit came with 4 rounds of golf per day. You also have access to the Health Club & Spa at the Westin.
Island Links has been under renovation in 2004. The club house has been completed and all units are scheduled for completion by February 2005. All renovations are in allignment with an RCI Gold Crown standard. The timeshare comes with free golf greens fees and tennis, as well as access to amenities at the nearby Westin. It is definitiely an improved timeshare and worth a visit.
We stayed at island Links October 2003 and found the area quite serene and beautiful -- many mature trees and the landscaping was lovely. We would definitely return.
Great location! Very good unit and amenities. Look forward to another trip!
Nice place. The units are very nice as well as the grounds, which are nestled among the pines of Hilton Head. Quiet and peaceful area.
My wife and I recently stayed at Island Links and hate to say, we were disappointed. Our unit was situated immediately in front of the main dumpster (in plain view) for the area. When we arrived (very late at night) it was overflowing. And by the time we left at the end of the week, the smell was unbearable.
The unit itself (2 bedroom) was very nice, clean and roomy but the view from the balcony left a bit to be desired. We overlooked an old foundation (looked like it was meant for another group of units but was abandoned, with overgrowth, etc.) There were other units in different stages of construction on the opposite side that looked like they were in various stages of construction - again abandoned. When I went to use the gas grill for one meal (there were 2) 1 was out of order and the other had no propane - tank was empty. I am still mystified on how this resort (?) rated the RCI GOLD CROWN and Interval Five Star status.
To rap it up, I liked Hilton Head (bought at another timeshare while there) but will not return to Island Links.
