Description
Address:
551 Thames St.
Newport, Rhode Island, United States, North America 02840

Vacationing takes on a nautical flavor at The Wellington, situated right on the harbor in Newport. In addition to its superb location, the resort offers amenities, such as saunas, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a health club, and clubhouse. There are fabulous mansions to tour, including Belcourt Castle, The Breakers, The Elms, and Rosecliff-the setting for The Great Gatsby-and historic sites are plentiful in the area. For recreation, water sports are the leading pastime. Newport also hosts a number of art galleries and crafts shops.

This resort is lovely, with a great location at the quieter end of Thames Street and yet so close to all of the fabulous variety of restaurants, stores, and happenings in Newport. Our family of four has stayed here numerous times over the past 15 years, and never been disappointed! The units are spacious, tastefully furnished and the resort has a lot to offer on site, including 2 lighted tennis courts, Clubhouse, and 2 swimming pools, indoors and outside, plus one for our children when they were young.

Definitely recommend this resort over others in Newport due to its location, amenities and unit quality!

Stayed at this clean, well maintained time share in July 2006. Very pleased. Friendly service, clean unit, convenient - if you enjoy walking, the walk into town is definitely doable....10-15minutes, throw on a comfortable pair of walking shoes and off you go. You need a car to get to the beach and the Cliff Walk. The one downside was that since I only rented the one bedroom suite, the "A" side, the other half, "B side", was rented to another party. The walls are pretty thin. The couple staying in the "B" side had an infant who pretty much cried every 3-4 hours during the nite, which sometimes woke us up. Also, check out time is 10am, with no flexibility for a later departure. The pools have plenty of lounge chairs. There is plenty of parking as well.

ON a RCI exchange, we spent the Martin Luther King holiday week at the Wellington. Placed in Bldg.5, second story unit with very limited view water, no harbor, bridge, but a tiny wedge view of water and only from one window. Returned to the main desk asked if possible moved to another room, but were told they were SOLD OUT. This being our first trip to Newport and during the winter with less than 50% of cars parked in the lot..to say we were disappointed. very disappointed. The Wellington is located 8 blocks or so from the main section of Newport, car was necessary, however a good walker would have no problem..although to carry items back could be a burden. Parking at Wellington was good, easy entry into timeshare. Kitchen was good size, no stove, but the electric skillet was helpful with eggs and ham in the morning. Nice having a fireplace in the unit, purchased logs at the Walmart, very reasonable and burned for 3-4 hrs. The second bedroom was two twin beds, so watch how you turn during the night, or you will go bump in the night, an owner of Wellington mention to us if you notify them in advance, they could place the two twin beds together. Since we found this out after our trip, it didn't help us. The unit is spacious, and private. Wellington should consider upgrading to VCR/DVD Player..and TV in LR could be larger, currently 25 or 27 inch. Housekeeping was good, but the sweeper and broom in the closet needs to be replaced, it did nothing. Handy to have washer/dryer in unit too. Newport was a very nice town to visit off season. Many things to do, and see..don't forget to try your luck at the Grand Casino..small but worth the trip. I would recommend Wellington, but avoid Bldg. 5, unless you are at the further end, for a view, thank God for the Ocean Cliff walk, it made up for the water view missing from our unit. Wellington should really request owners to respond if using their unit by set date, this way they would be able to move or rent to non owners, this could help reduce high maintenance fees. Hope you all enjoy Newport as much as we did, already looking forward to another trip in April and June.

I just got back from staying at the Wellington Resort. We had bought a timeshare there sight unseen based mainly on the reviews from other redweek members. It was an excellent choice.

The units are quite large and well laid out. We spent a lot of time exploring the nearby sights, but also spent a fair amount of time in the unit. The TV was good though it could have been a bit bigger. It was great having the full- sized washer and dryer in the unit. We even lit a fire in the fireplace one night.

The kitchen was also good though we missed having a stove. We asked the desk clerk why there are no stoves in many timeshare units in Newport. He told us that when these units were built the then mayor of Newport owned a restaurant, and he didn't want these tourists staying in their units to cook. So he passed some kind of fire ordinance to limit the number of stoves that could be installed. Having lived in Rhode Island for many years, this could be true. It's no longer a law, so we brought our own electric burner and a few pans to cook. The unit also had a microwave, toaster oven, full- sized refrigerator and electric skillet.

We had a fourth story unit facing the harbor. The view from our balcony was outstanding.

I didn't rate it five stars because though it was clean and fairly well maintained, it didn't have that put together look that Disney always seems to capture in their timeshares.

All in all, we're glad we purchased there!!!

Far and away the best timeshare in Newport. Large, spacious rooms with "real" views off both balconies. View over the water is unparalleled. The staff in the clubhouse is friendly and knowledgeable and eager to give you as much information about Newport and its environs as you could want. Absolutely perfect location right at the end of Thames. Right at the edge of all the action so you walk right into the center of town in less than 5 minutes, yet not noisy or overly congested. Having owned for 13+ years at Oceancliff prior to this, this is a dream. Visited Newport Onshore and it wasn't even close. That timeshare on Long Wharf is so far out of the center of town that it becomes a real hastle...do you take your car, or put on hiking boots?

We have stayed at this resort and think it is the best timeshare in Newport. It is away from the Newport noise, but within walking distance to the sites in Newport and the restaurants. The units are very spacious and well furnished with plenty of parking space. The resort has many activities to chose from, and the grounds are very well kept. We have seen all the other timeshares in Newport, and rate The Wellington the best by far.

We've owned at The Wellington for 12 years. We love it's location (water views, and it's in-town on Thames Street, but not in your face) and the unit itself is wonderful (Brightness, set-up and large size). The timeshare property (About 60 units I believe) is small compared to most resorts. Still there are 2 pools (I/O), a workout room overlooking the bay) and tennis. We have stayed in perhaps 20-24 other timeshares through-out America and it beats 80% of them! Except for planned resort activities in the cold months, which could be improved upon.

We used a bonus week to stay here. The Wellington was much more than we expected. My mother-in-law stayed with us, but was able to basically have her own room with private bath.

The units are well-equipped & spacious, and the property appeared to be well-maintained.

The location was great for us, within easy walking distance to shops & restaurants but just outside the 'night-life' zone. Great views from the deck, dining & living rooms.

We'd definitely be interested in staying there again.

The Wellington is a nice resort with a great view of Newport Harbor on the quite side of south Thames st (though very close to all the shops/restaurants on south Thames st). Full kitchen except for no oven (only an electric flying pan). I was in the closest building to the water (unit 332ab) from which You can view great sunsets from your balcony. Excellent staff.

All the standard amenities are available at this resort. The weather in early September was excellent (sunny and in the high 70s, with some days in the low 80s).

This resort was clean and well situated overlooking the water and the Jamestown Bridge. Restuarants nearby were within walking distance. The area is beautiful.
