My husband and I stayed in Park City at the Park Avenue Condominiums in June /02. We stayed in one of 10 condos operated by an outfit called Resortex. They are only open for two hours on Saturday afternoon for registration, but the mechanisms for registering late and getting your keys seemed very straightforward.
We arrived during office hours and found the manager to be a very friendly and helpful person. She had brochures about Park City and gave us a good quality t-shirt for our son (who collects t-shirts from all the places that we don't take him to). The office was easy to find and just across the street from the resort.
We stayed in a condo with a patio that faced Park Ave., which is a very busy street, and I was disappointed that we were so close to the road, when the other half of the condos face onto the municipal golf course. But the placement of trees made our patio actually quite private, and the street noise did not turn out to be a problem. We stayed in a very roomy one-bedroom condo with covered parking. The ceilings in the living room and the upstairs bedroom were vaulted and the total height of the wall going up the stairs was over 20 feet, giving a very spacious feel to the unit. Also, the bedroom windows faced the back of the complex so that the road noise had no impact on our sleep. The unit had a Murphy bed that could make the dining area into a second bedroom with a privacy accordion curtain.
There was an eating bar in the very large and well-laid out kitchen, and an ingenious table that could be wheeled out and set up in the dining area and put away again if the second bedroom was being used. The living room was also large enough to accommodate the table if the second bedroom remained set up. The kitchen was great, and we ended up cooking almost all our meals there, we ate out only once, for lunch! Having a 24-hour Albertson?s grocery store across the street also helped with our decision to do so much cooking.
The resort has a small heated pool and two hot tubs, as well as single-sex saunas located in the change rooms. The resort office is located by the pool, and the staff were also very helpful even though they had no connection to Resortex. The golf course is beautiful, surrounded by mountains and with a couple of ponds with migratory birds enjoying the respite on their trip north. We had a car with us but walked almost everywhere; Park City is small and compact, with a delightful "old town", municipal park, and tourist amenities close by. There is also a beautiful and well-managed municipal library with free Internet access.
There are no resort activities organized by Resortex, the town and surrounding mountains and forests provide enough activities. The resort is geared for people who are looking for a spacious and relaxing location to enjoy the outdoors as only Utah can offer. As a PS for shoppers, Park City has a Factory Outlet mall with the best bargains I have seen in a long time.
