River Village I & II at Shawnee Resort
Reviews of River Village I & II at Shawnee Resort
Just returned from a stay in Sept 2007. Unit was dated and very tired. No kitchen cabinets for dishes, carpet soiled, toilets not working correctly (despite repair while there), LR furniture uncomfortable. Had 45 stairs into the unit--would be impossible for older person. Unit was spacious (except master BR), comfortable for large groups, nice screened porch, nice hiking trails, pleasant staff. Area (Rt 209) can get quite congested.
Substantial improvemants under Fairfield management. Five minutes from skiing and lots to do in area.
The units are nice, clean, rustic, and large. Many people don't realize that its close to Dorney Park (amusement park / water park) which is a fun day trip from the resort. They also have ski/snowboarding camps for the kids at the ski mountains, and childcare services. Not to mention the activities were a lot of fun. We usually visit in the winter and summer.
I have spent several weeks in Shawnee. It's a very low-key sort of setting. They typically have a packet of events that are going on daily that include champagne bingo at the pavilion and Jeopardy in one of the lounges. So, if you want to FIND something to do, t's there.
Unless you are a golfer in the nicer weather, or a skier in the winter, the two best things to do are go horseback riding or canoing on the Delaware. They are both relaxing and neither requires much experience.
For site-seeing, hit the Delaware Water Gap and Bushkill Falls. If you are there with kids, you HAVE to go to Shawnee Play Park.
Be forewarned - this is Pennsylvania, not the Caribbean! ;o)
There are many ski slopes in the area wich were great! Cross country skiing at water gap is beautiful....we even walked a short distance on yhe Apalation trail. I have been ther two times in Jan. there is agreat recreation center with nice pools kids would love it!
I drive into Manhaten NY. for a day and site see...over all this is a spacious resort in a great location.
