We have stayed in this resort for Labor Day weekend of 2007. First of all, this is a really small facility to call a resort It is more like a hotel with few resort like activities and a small pool area. We did not mind it too much, because the location is great and we had a nice view from our balcony.
We had a 2 bedroom unit, but one "bedroom" was strangely placed within the living room and adjacent to the kitchenette. The fridges were small, very noisy and were not able to maintain ice or ice cream.
Cleanliness was another issue ... All beds, linens, pillows including the cushions in the living area and extra blankets in the drawers smelled musty and stale, you know like that musty, yucky body odors left from former guests. This resort seriously needs to stock up on febreeze. The towels were clean, but they were full of holes, very thin and hard like sand paper.
There are also boat docks in the back. One of our bedrooms was on that side. Work (and noise) starts at 8 am in the morning and continue until mid-afternoon.
Noise, coupled with smelly beds made it really hard to get a restful night's sleep.
This resort trades with II as a distinguished resort, but I think II needs to review this facility and downgrade.
On the positive side, staff members were rather friendly, guests can check out free videos for 24 hrs and the location is great.
As much as we love CA and location of this resort, we probably would not go back to this particular facility unless they renovate and clean up.

An intimate, well maintained resort by the sea. Ask for a unit looking out on the water. One hour drive north of LAX. Close to the water and sea faring activities, like trips to the Channel islands, etc. No exercise room, though.
Nearby are the old missionary sites of Ventura and lovely Santa Barbara (25 m north). Don't miss Ojai! This village tucked in the mountains with Spas (Sheila's is my favorite) and galleries is truly a gem of a place off the beaten path. Day trips will take you to Hearst Castle and some wineries.
The resort lent movies and bikes when I visited-which was a few years ago, hopefully they still do.

This is a very nice location. The two bedroom unit we occupied was roomy and very clean. The unit has a bed in the living area which is strange, but, really ok. Bathrooms are roomy. We had a limited view of the harbour. The balconies are solid at the bottom so to see one must stand. I noticed that some of the front units have glass enclosed balconies and patios. The pool is very pleasant and heated. I thoroughly enjoyed the area. Santa Barbara is very close by. We took a day trip to Anacapa Island. This was the highlight of the trip for me. Our grandchildren ages 5 and 6 enjoyed Magic Mountain (an hours drive) and the beaches and playgrounds in both Ventura and Santa Barbara. Solvang is probably an hour and a half drive.

We had a great summer week at Harbourtown Resort. The bikes are complimentary and are a great way to get around. The leisure staff are extremely helpful.
