Maratea, Italy, Europe
The Pianeta Maratea complex is located on a hillside overlooking the sea a short distance from the ancient Roman town of Maratea in southern Italy. Below, a pebble beach is gently lapped by a sparkling, clear sea, and mountains covered in lush vegetation form a spectacular backdrop. The resort is near the well-known Grand Hotel, and the complex offers a wide range of leisure and entertainment facilities, including a water slide during the high season.

Great views, full range of recreation facilities. Vehicle required to enjoy surrounding areas. Limited English speaking staff. On-site restaurant with good food and service. Keep in mind the area shuts down between 1PM to 5PM for "Siesta". Tour office on site with excursions. Beautiful little historic area.

If you want to get away from the busy Amalfi coast but still get the same fantastic view of the Mediterrenean from high up and nice beaches (with free buses), this is the place. The nearby Maratea town (with free buses) is probably the most picturesque small old town that we found South of Rome with great shops, restaurants, etc..
The pool is huge, tennis on-site, a good restaurant, lots of other activities and entertainment during the season and car rental on-site so you will never be bored. It's an easy direct 3 hour train trip from Rome with the station right in the village so you don't even need a car.

Located high on a hill near Maratea, this is a sprawling resort complex with a surprisingly good restaurant. It is very busy and popular, but the complex connecting it to the Grand Hotel (monorail, waterslide) is in ruins. Great views.
