- The Phoenix Resort is situated across the road from Lake Taupo, New Zealand's largest lake. In winter, visitors can ski at the nearby skifields with Raupehu offering a memorable experience for skiers, and in summer there are water sports including fishing, jet boating and windsurfing. Prolific trout fishing can be done in the lakes and rivers such as the mighty Tongariro, famous for its white water rafting and canoeing. An hours drive away is Rotorua, surrounded by exotic forests, hot thermal pools and boiling lakes. Taupo boasts excellent golf courses, bowls and bush walks.
