Reviews of Coral Beach Resort
Arrecife, Canary Islands (Spain)
Now having visited this resort I can say things about it. First and most importantly, Interval Internation is wrong, there is no whirlpool whatsoever on the premises. There is a nice size pool, but it is frequented by children.
As for Club La Concha, it is set in a light urban area. The resort is clean, but around the resort is filthy (the local's). We had to see a lot of broken beer botels and glass on our way to the rent a car and to playa honda beach.
food is excellent, especially the pizzaria at the Deiland Centro Commercial (their word for mall example Mall of America Centro Commercial). Also try downtown Arreccife, there is a really really good one down there. Shrimp (or prawns) are probably the best in the world in LAnzarote. Stay away from Puerto Del Carmen for food, not good and they'll rip you off. Just stick to Arecciffe. Make sure you eat lots of Lamb Chops, they are amazing.
Night Life, we never experienced, because the clubs did not even open until 1am, a huge difference, as compared to the United States. But there are plenty of bars and liqour is cheap. Though get in the mindset now if you are going there, definatly better to buy wine by the bottle, much much cheaper and more alchohol for you!!
Touristy stuff is limited to the beutiful beaches, the cave tour thing and just driving around the island. They have internet access there too, very well developed island (in european terms). Bew forwarned this is definatly not hawaii, the bahamas or any place like that. Its like going to an city in Germany, a small city. McDonalds is a gourmet restaurant there, though burger king is still fast food.
The room was very nice and neat. All white like a in the movies (The Firm). Not all the modern convieneces you'd like, but everything you need. The tub is large, and in its own little marble thing, which you'll be very impressed with for sure. But the tub is not deep enough, hot water runs out quick and there are no jacuzzi jets. Let me reiterate there are NO WHIRLPOOLS ON THIS RESORT. Also make sure you watch knight rider in German "Eine Man, Eine computer." Hillarious. And there is even a Deutche Superstar show, which is the German verision of American or lets say German Idol. If you need English, there is the BBC, no CNN. BBC is cool because they play movies too and you can watch British talk shows. Then there are the Spanish TV channels, which seem to make fun of George DUBYA all the time, very funny. In fact everyone makes fun of our president over there, no one really agrees with him at all. Though we were treated really good there.
And finally the staff at the resort was AWSOME!!!!! If you do go make sure you talk to Victor and Miguel at the bar, my two new friends. They are the bartenders. Ask Victor for the drink called "The Corey," Miguel knows this one too!! And buy Wine from the resort, believe me you will not be disappointed. The property is nice, and right on the beach. We could practically walk right out of our room on our own private beach. That part is nice, though many parts of the beach were dirty.
Oh and if you order a hamburger anywhere in Lanzarote, keep in mind that the meet tastes like that because its horse meat and not beef.
All in all, we had a blast and are planning a return vist. If you do fly make sure you fly the friendly skies, and stay as far away from Iberia as possible. Try the US to London then Madrid via British Airways (believe us you cannot go wrong, especially if you do business class). And from Madrid fly Spanair. You'll be pleasantly suprised with this airline. Or there is always the Air Berlin flight through Berlin or Lufthunsa through Stuttgart. The island is full of British and German tourists. Whats funny is I am black and the people thought I was Irish, so really there are no americans there at all. We never saw a one.
In closing, stay away from puerto del carmen at night, eat at the pizzaria and downtown arreccife, RENT A CAR and drive around the whole isalnd, watch knight rider in german, drink lots of wine, and talk to Victor and Miguel at the Club LA Concha bar. Oh and most importantly, change your dollars to Euros before you leave the states. And if you are going to England, get you some pound sterling too.
