This is kind of a funny place for Wyndham to put a vacation resort. Santee is really not anything at all -- an interchange on I-95, a crossroads, and a top-notch lake for fishing. Indeed, about half of the local activities magazine is ads for fishing guides and fish camps. It was dead-full when we visited the second weekend in January so it has something going for it.

For us, it is just about halfway between South Florida and home in Fairfax County. We were going to take Amtrak's Autotrain north but decided to spend two nights in Santee (one nighters not permitted).

Staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. Check-in was a breeze. Larry remembered us from a visit about fourteen month before. The unit was spacious, clean, and everything worked, even WiFi. Way too cold to even think about the pool but I'm sure it is a major source of comfort in the summer.

Great dinner at Captain's Quarters and an interesting Sunday afternoon buffet at Lone Star BBQ and Mercantile. Southern country cooking in an extremely rustic setting.

I don't know that I'd want to spend a week here unless I had a boat but it works very well for a couple of nights to break up an otherwise too-long drive.

Enjoyed our stay! Had a 3 BR which was very spacious! DR sat 8 people, kitchen had granite countertops with plenty of cabinet and counter space, well stocked with towels for entire unit, flat screen TV's in all bedrooms, LR had large flat screen w/DVD player, ceiling fans in all 3 BR and on balcony, unit was clean, carpet thru out was clean, apt size washer n dryer, pool and club house are finished and the pool is wonderful, fitness center is very small. There was no wi-fi but we were able to obtain internet access from most rooms. Outside of units are nice with beautiful landscaping. Each unit overlooked Lake Marion which is a very tranquil setting.

We did have to clean ceiling fans, sweep balcony and clean bugs from windows. We had our share of killing bugs inside unit (we were on the 1st floor) but we were in the South and bugs are sometimes unavoidable.

I have never been dissapointed at a Wyndham property and this one is a WINNER!!!

We stayed at Lake Marion the week of August 24, 2009. There are five buildings with 12 units each...some may be privately owned. The rest of the location is under construction. Permits are being sought to build a pool which is due to be completed sometime in 2010. There is no computer access; television and radio reception is poor. There are a few eateries in Santee. By all means, visit the museum in Ellorie. The lake itself is beautiful but you will need a boat to enjoy it. Use Exit 95 from U.S. 95 to get to this location. We will go back in a few years when everything is finished. It really is a beautiful location.
