We've owned at Cameron House for many years but recently bought one of the Carrick's luxury Auchentulloch Cottages at the foot of Ben Lomond, with a private patio looking right over Loch Lomond itself. Could also see the loch and the moutains very clearly from the lounge and the bedrooms. The views, and the way the colour of the loch and the sky constantly changes with the light is unbelievable when you can watch it this close up. We chose to go in June because as the comedian Billy Connolly famously said, there's only two seasons in Scotland, winter and June.....! June is definitely the best time to go and is also one of the most peaceful. We ate on our own private terrace at the foot of Ben Lomond, overlooking Loch Lomond most evenings and really made the most of the warm days and long light summer nights Scotland is famous for at this time of year.

The kitchen had every gadget imagineable - our 20 year old son discovered his inner chef there ... and even found the dishwasher afterwards, so had some terrific meals.. Unusual to find so much comfort and luxury in such idyllic and peaceful natural surroundings - we even had fluffy bathrobes, Arran toiletries, and best of all, a free mid-week clean. I loved being able to wake up early right at the loch - it looks like a black and white picture until the sun comes up. Amazing - quite awe-inspiring.

Also enjoyed the birdwatching tour into the neighbouring estate with James - he took us to an amazing lochside estate that was just a 15 minute walk away - we'd never have found it on our own, but went back a few times after that and had it to ourselves every time. Also loved the Martin Wishart restaurant at the old Cameron House Hotel- the concierge took us door to door. Also our drive out for lunch at the Loch Fyne Oyster Bar - which is actually ON Loch Fyne. Great provisions there too - couldn't be fresher.

The free spa afew minutes walk away along the loch was also a highlight. There's a huge heated infinity plunge pool with views over Ben Lomond - amazing views from the tepidarium and the saunas and series of indoor plunge pools and spas. Had a massage one afternoon as well - lovely experience and terrific "relaxing" rooms to sip juice and read in afterwards. Complete luxury. Will definitely be back.
