Our recent stay at Fairfield Bay was quiet and enjoyable. As the original resort in the Fairfield group, this vacation spot still remains a natural beauty, although the widely spread community boasts 2500 permanent residents. This city is governed not only by a mayor and elected officials but also by a long-standing community board. There is currently some disagreement about the placement of a proposed hotel, but residents realize the importance of new growth.
Our two bedroom unit was close to the tennis courts, which are being redone. These four Cliffside buildings are three stories with access at the second level. They are roomy and include a fireplace and a 10 x 10 master bath with an enormous Jacuzzi. The view was of trees and the lake was some distance away. While visiting the Bay, we bowled, played mini golf, attended the weekly two step dance at the senior center, went to the library, listened to karaoke performers, viewed the museum, the marina, and the two highly-rated golf courses. We also drove throughout the surrounding scenic areas; note - the highways are hilly and full of curves.
Our overall impression was that this must have been a top of the line facility about 15- 20 years ago; the staff is certainly friendly and efficient and the residents are well pleased with their community. However, the convention center is shuttered as are most of the shops in the on site mall. Units are beginning to show their age; can they be modernized? Can we? The addition of a first rate fitness center five years ago is a huge boost, but the area must attract more visitors, more families, and new businesses. Meeting this challenge will determine the course of this lovely Fairfield resort.

Excellent place to take the kids. The pools are great and are very uncrouded. We have stayed here twice and have had a great time everytime. Very laid back. If you want to go for a treat run with the kids after 8pm forget it as they roll up the sidewalk after 7pm. But if you are looking for a great clean condo with great pools, great golf courses and very much uncrouded this is your place.

Unlike all of the other Fairfields I've visited this
had steps and this trip I was travelling with
my parents, who are elderly and the steps
were not condusive to their needs. But the
unit was beautiful and well kept. We were
right on the golf course and the greens were
amazing.
I think getting there was half the fun. The
drive from the airport was breathtaking.

Quiet seclusion, very nice accomodations. We stayed there in March of 2002. Although it rained several days during our stay, the time spent there was well worth it.
