Address:
174 Horseshoe Circle
Gordonsville, Virginia, United States, North America 22942

Shenandoah Crossing Resort & Country Club is located approximately 30 miles northeast of Charlottesville and 107 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. The focal point of the resort is the large manor house built in the style of Colonial Virginia. Surrounding the manor house are such amenities as two outdoor pools, two lighted tennis courts, a restaurant, an 18-hole championship golf course, a mile- long lake for fishing, and an equestrian center. Nestled among the wooded area of the property are log cabin accommodations and a 47-room lodge. This is a great get away vacation, in an area rich in early American history.

Our family spent a week at Shenandoah Crossing in May 2005. It was very enjoyable and we hope to go back again. The resort had lots of activities for families to enjoy. The horseback riding was a favorite for us.

This resort is wonderful! We stayed in a cabin which was nicely decorated country style. We did horse back riding, miniture golf, paddle boating, horse shoe, swimming. There were a lot of activities to do in the resort. This is a great place for city life getaway. It is so quiet and relexing. The sincery was so beautiful. The horseback riding part was the most impressive! This is the resort we difinitly will visit again.

Best Things Nearby: The equestrian center (on-site).

Three of the president's homes: Montpelier, Monticello and Ash Lawn-Highland.

Shenandoah National Park is supposed to be very beautiful.

The independently run (and we heard challenging) golf course is also located along the lake.

Blue Ridge Pottery - Route 33 just east of Shenandoah National Park. Tours available. Worth the trip!

Best Things About This Share: Horses!! We bought here primarily for the onsite horseback riding.

The grand resort cabins have two bedrooms and two baths, a hot tub, a large living/dining area with a fireplace, and a well-stocked full kitchen. The appliances are all full sized and newer models.

The staff is wonderful here and they have a full activity schedule year round.

Did I mention they had horses??!!

General Comments About The Experience: The drive from Connecticut to Virginia took us through seven states. Although long, it was a beautiful ride. We finally arrived at Shenandoah Crossing after dark, unable to get a good view of the surroundings. We did catch sight of two deer grazing just outside the span of our headlights as we neared the main lodge for check-in.

The young woman at the front desk was very cheerful and friendly. Everything was well prepared and we were quickly on our way to our cabin, #165, with our keys, map and an information packet. Street lighting is limited both in and out of the resort, so finding the cabin can be a bit of an adventure as the cabins are staggered and aren't all visible from the road.

Grand Resort Cabin This is a two bedroom, two bath cabin with fireplace, screened in porch and gas grill. Although you used to have to "cool with the windows and heat with the fireplace", the units are now heated and have central air. Keeping to the rustic log cabin theme, many interior walls are made of wood planks and the dining table, end tables and bedroom furniture are also made from unfinished wood. The master bath has a skylight and either a single or double Jacuzzi, depending on the unit. The master bedroom has a queen bed and there are two twins in the spare bedroom. Each room has a closet with hangers, a dresser and night stand(s). The living room sofa folds out to a queen sized bed.

Under the kitchen sink was a scrub sponge, small bottle of dishwashing liquid and some dishwasher tablets. We had plenty of these to get through the week. Some shampoo, lotion and soaps were provided in the bathrooms, but not enough for a week. Linens/towels can be exchanged at any time at housekeeping, a vacuum cleaner, broom and dustpan can be found in the spare bedroom.

Activities When we were at the lodge for check-in, we quickly checked out the small indoor pool with large Jacuzzi, the game room, exercise room and restaurant. (There are also two outdoor pools and one jacuzzi that were closed for the season.) An attendant is on duty at the game room which includes ping pong and pool tables, various video and pinball machines, air hockey, basketball shooting. Videos are available for rent. Games cost under a dolllar to play. Outdoor activities include tennis, basketball, sand volleyball, radio controlled racecar track and miniature golf course. There is a nice play area for smaller children with jungle gym, swings, play house, etc.

There is a marina at one end of the resort with rowboats and paddleboats. In season, there is a 20 minute pontoon ride around the 60-acre man-made lake.

We fully enjoyed the full activity schedule at the resort. We won a miniature golf hole-in- one contest and my husband won a ping- pong tournament. We participated in a pool tournament also and came in second. I was very impressed that so many activities were still run during such a slow time.

Being a work out fanatic, my husband is quite picky about exercise areas. He was impressed with the facilities at Shenandoah Crossing. There were two treadmills, two recumbent bikes, weights and resistance machines and more. All looked to be relatively new equipment.

Laundry There are no washer/dryer units in the cabins but the laundry room is conveniently located in the playground area. There are about 10 washer/dryer units and all are brand new. Two didn't even have the delivery paperwork removed yet. Best of all, there was no charge to operate. There is a second laundry room in the campground area near the stables.

Gordonsville Gordonsville is small, but has all the necessities. We visited the Food Lion a couple times for groceries. The store is well stocked, has some good sales and it is easy to get a customer card in order to get the sale prices. There are some quaint shops on Main Street that are worth a visit. I picked up a couple Christmas gifts at Jane's Blueberry Basket.

Overall, this was one of our best vacations we've had this year. The facilities and grounds are very well maintained and the staff (especially equestrian, activity & maintenance staff) were great. Now if we could just figure out how to get the resort closer to home!!

I use to own up at the Crossing when it was first being built. I use to love to go up there to get away from it all. I sold my place many years ago and I am sorry I did that. This is a place where you can go to unwind from the hussle and bussle of today world. so if you get that chance to either rent or own your own timeshare do it. You will not be sorry.
