Yearly rising maintenance fees (some in the hundreds of dollars), unexpected special assessments (some in the thousands of dollars) and rising exchange fees are the main reason we have sold most of our timeshares. Timeshare ownership formerly was a cost effective option for traveling, but in the last several years the unrealistic rising costs have ruled the cost effectiveness of (most) timeshare ownership no longer exists. We now rent.
