Dorado Aquaris (formerly part of Embassy)

Unfortunately, the Dorado Aquarius has undergone a dramatic deterioration, and the hotel portion was very disappointing. Refrigerators were rusting and defective, the toaster was broken, the kitchen had only a frypan, a saucepan, incomplete sets of dishes and mismatched silverware (and no replacements were available). The sofa/bed had a broken frame and was almost unusable, and although we had sheets they were mismatched and too short for the beds. Noting a bed without blankets, we called and were told no blankets were available (they said the management refused to let them order new supplies, but they would instead bring two sheets to help) and the bedspreads were soiled and had large tears in the surfaces. The carpets were so soiled that our bare feet were black within a few minutes. The resort's phones often were unanswered even during the day, and we were overbilled several times, though they corrected the errors after protests. On the positive side, the staff were friendly and apologetic, the beach was great, and the pool(s) seemed very clean, but I note that they were shared with the Embassy Suites Hotel (different owners) who may have taken over maintenance. Would we (4 couples) stay there again? Unfortunately, no. It appears the hotel is in a continuing downward spiral and is in desperate need of new owners and financing. Overall rating C minus at best.
