I will also add to Ken's comment above. Another reason for increasing maintenance fees at some resorts is the number of owners who default on paying their fees. That means the remaining owners have to pay to cover the delinquent owners' share. By the way, one recommendation if you are dissatisfied with the way the fees increase is to run for being on the board when the election of the board comes up. As an owner there, you have that right to do so. I know it seems a little extreme but if you are on the board, then you have some say or control about the fees. Of course, any competent board members are not going to arbitrarily say "Let's lower maintenance fees!" because, as noted above, fees are needed to keep the resort functioning smoothly.
