Re: WALK AWAY FROM TIMESHARE (by NoOneYouKnow):

Really? Hmm?!

"One More Year" means one extra maintenance fee . . . . the year they took it back was already paid and they required another year's MF?

Lobby means asking, in the manner that a yippy little dog that grabs hold of your pants cuff and won't let go. A friendly, persistent little dog.

In 2008 we owned 6 weeks, 3 each at two resorts, and I started to get rid of them. I asked both resorts to take them back, for free of course. One resort refused altogether, and I wound up giving two of them away, keeping a third one for year-round amenities rights.

In 2011, we bought a house, and live half the year where we previously had used a timeshares to stay a few weeks. The other half a year we have had a house for 20 years where we previously used a timeshare to stay a few weeks.

I kept asking the second resort to take them back, and they kept refusing. I gave two of them away. Then, in 2019 that resort notified me that they would take it back, with us paying the 2019 and 2020 fees. So I did.

The resort that did not take them back was contentions and unfriendly. The second resort was the opposite, understood our situation, put me at the top of the list, and took it back when they figured out how to make it work for them. Actually, it was a prime Spring Break ski week that we had always rented out, and, at the very least, the resort can do that for three times what we were paying in fees.

In recent years we bought a week at a third resort, also for year-round amenities rights, sold it at a small profit, and bought a "better" week at the same resort, a foreclosure they had taken back. That resort rents our week out, earning them a commission in additional to the annual fee we pay. We get our entire annual fee back, plus a little more. Even if we didn't, the annual fee is a reasonable amount for year-round beach access and amenities. A little extra is nice.
