WOW! I had no idea that there were so many unhappy time share owners. I have never had any problem banking my unused weeks and points at RCI. I sometimes have a problem USING them later on when they are getting ready to expire, but I am starting to plan a head and book early. I bought the time share originally so I (and my now deceased work-a-holic husband)would be forced to take a vaccation each year; I need it, you need it and when I die my kids will need it as well. Paid for vaccations (time share weeks or points) that only require the yearly maintainence fees are a deal in my book. Am I being naive?

Hi DKelley,

I certainly don't think you are. I bought for certain reasons and they haven't changed a bit. I also think of my vacations as being very valuable. When I started hearing these people be so negative about the whole thing, it really disturbed me.

I have not had the problems others complain of. Sure, theres a learning curve but most of the blame rests with the owner because they don't do their homework.

people seem to all of the sudden be in the know after they are totally disatisfied and they seem to voice their opinions with much more passion and energy than they did originally in trying to maximize their vacation time.

personally I think the resale market prices are a result of people devaluing these TSs in their own mind. Let me ask, would you offer your TS for these type of prices? owners don't HAVE to in most cases. They are just sucked into this mentality because it seems to be all you hear.

Think about this. You build a beachfront tower and sell out timeshares. Now you know and I know that the original price is terribly inflated but it doesn't take long for the proprety value to reach that point. That value divided among the number of owners is what the TS is truely worth.

Lets say half of the owners decide to sell at 1/4 the price they paid. Does that bring the price of the total property down? No, so where does all that value go? The value is only lost in their minds because tax paid each year is going up based on the value.

I love timesharing and am trying to figure ways of doing more. I knew of the resale market and still upgraded a few more times through the developer because of the perks. My timeshares have never been worth less in my mind of what I paid.

I know people are negative about this but then again people are negative about most things. Are they not? The most interesting thing I find is that these same people that are so negative spend so much time on these web sites instead of doing something else.

Go figure!

Jeff
