I don't believe you have to plan a year or more in advance for ALL exchanges, just those exchanges that are hard to get (supply and demand). You mentioned popular areas such as Burmuda and Key West.

Timesharing may not be for you any longer if you can't get the exchanges you prefer. Many people are bailing out (selling) due to not being able to snag an exchange they want. It may be time to sell and merely rent in the future .... less hassle.
