Clarification required here... (by KC):

belanger has stated in quoted part: >> Yes, it is very common that RCI wants to charge you to convert. << ================================================

I have low regard for RCI, but in the interest of accurate facts, it's NOT actually RCI doing the "charging" in a conversion to points --- it's the RESORT. The resort makes the decision to adopt a points program --- not RCI. And it's not RCI that gets the money charged in such "conversions" --- it's the RESORT. Even if the conversion is to the RCI Points program, it's still NOT RCI either doing the marketing or getting the conversion money -- it's the RESORT!

I agree with most of belangers' observations about RCI points and their fluctuating value, but felt that the significant misrepresentation of fact which I've quoted above really cried out for correction.

Btw, it's the resorts which impose housekeeping fees (again, it's NOT RCI charging that cost either, or receiving any of that fee) for partial week use. This fee is an understandable practice (although the fee itself may well be too high), since any unit anywhere requires "turnover" cleaning whenever changing occupants. Going "off cycle" from regularly scheduled end of week cleaning means that the resort incurs additional cleaning costs. These unscheduled costs then get passed along to --- well, guess who?
