True --- and an astute observation. PayPal offers NO protection whatsoever in "non-tangibles" transactions, and rental is indeed just such a "non-tangibles" transaction. The only guaranty with PayPal is the immediate receipt of payment by the "landlord".
As already advised, a detailed written contract executed and signed by both parties BEFORE any money changes hands is the first, best step. It's far more important and significant "protection" than the particular chosen method of payment.
