Not true in Starwood properties. All Starwood owners, regardless where they own, have the same priority when reserving other Starwood properties since you actually do not "exchange". As Starwood owner, you get "options" that you can use to reserve other Starwood properties up to 8 months in advance BUT up to 1 year when reserving your home resort. Hence, the difficulty in reserving other Starwood resorts is determined solely by the availability of the resort itself driven by the number of owners utilizing their units. Based on my experience as long time owner of several weeks in Orlando, it is not difficult to utilize Bahamas or Hawaii as long as you have some flexibility in your schedule.
