I agree with many resorts changing over to points even though I turned our resort down when asked if I would like to upgrade my ownership to points. I had no problem saying NO and did not agree that paying out more money and higher maintenance fee is a upgrade.

I now own one unit with deed and own one small percent of the Ridge and very happy. Some day we will probably buy a odd year to go with the even year we still own. If I understand the points you are buying into the resort for time use but really own nothing else. I see this working for my resort because all the bonus{open dates} days they offer during off season would now bring in more money as points sold.
