You can't just give a timeshare back to a resort unless they are willing to take it (most won't).

And yes, some things ARE free .... I acquired a free timeshare week in 2010 with the 2011maintenance fees paid AND the giver paying closing costs using a Quit Claim deed via an attorney. That week was absolutely free for me to use and I did. I sold it for a nice profit after I used the week .... we didn't care for the location of the unit but it was coveted by others.
