I am surprised by some of this. We buy points, are provided detailed documentation, have a 10 day period to back away, and then complain that Marriott won't refund our money???? The same thing happens when you by a car, a house, or any other major purchase. It seems unreasonable to be angry at Marriott for this.
The points are not useless - unless you choose to let them sit on the shelf and expire. Have you thought about using the points to acquire a few days or a week to rent out thru Redweek? You could also acquire a few weekdays to add to an existing Marriott reservation, carry them forward, etc. You are not without viable options.
