Re: anyone been to this resort? (by Wendy N.):

Just got back from Playas del Coco and we are sad to report that we, too, were seduced into a Coco Sunset Fractional Share with rental option. It was just supposed to be an 'information session' over a complimentary lunch but it turned into a hard-sell sales presentation by a couple of smooth operators on a tag team. Five hours later, their final carrot was the use of a 2-br condo for our entire 2-week stay as their guests. ( Later I found out that I couldn't cancel and get a refund for the original hotel we had booked.) After reading all the above unhappy posts, so similar to our situation, I feel that we also have become victims to their promises and guarantees. We definitely would like to be part of a class action suit. They are expecting a final $7000+ on April 15th. Should I hold this back? We have always run from timeshare presentations before; why were we so silly? After having buyer's remorse the next day after talking to a local expat who knew alot about this outfit, I tried to get out of this situation by calling the credit card company, who could do nothing; we signed a legal contract and all. I then got online at the Internet Cafe in Coco. When I read about the 10-day buyer's remorse provision on this forum, I went and confronted the sales rep that they failed to mention this, but was told it didn't apply to us as we were given such a good deal and had signed that we were totally happy. We even went to the Century 21 office but they could offer no useable advice either. How can one do your proper due diligence when you are held captive in an office full of sharks, in a foreign country without phone or access to computer? It was already too late, was confounded by lies and misinformation and felt quite helpless, lost in the woods, so to speak. I was just too trusting and moonstruck - a real sucker! Costa Rica is such a wonderful country, friendly people and great food. The scenery is awesome! What happened with us has marred our enjoyment of our holiday this time, but I will be back to get more of what I missed. I'm not sure if I will ever use my weeks at Coco Sunset, even though it was a decent enough place, certainly much more comfortable and quiet than the hotel would have been. I thought the beach at Cafe de Playa was just fine, relaxing, a lot cleaner than in the town and with plenty of shade when it's too hot. We have become reluctant fractional owners. It could be worse, I guess. All we can do now is make the best of it, eh? Wendy
