We attempted a credit from the credit card company as "fraudulent transaction" with no luck. Bank of America (BOA) wasn't willing to call it fraud because my parents had actually signed the paperwork (they were tricked into it). What credit card company did you have? Would you be willing to call me and give me some pointers so I can try to get my parents' money back?
