PayPal can be confusing if you're not familiar with it .... also I've never been able to talk to a live person there .... all disputes are handled exclusively via the internet and is time consuming.

You should be fine if there's a rental agreement in place stipulating the terms of the rental (you can find sample rental agreements by searching forums) in merely taking a credit card or check.
