There is a range of what AI's include. Some include golf, scuba, most include some non motorized water sport activities like kayaks, hobie cats, some include snorkel trips, glass bottom boat trips. A few include spa packages, tours outside of the resort. In general you get daily housekeeping which often is not included in regular timeshares. They often have activities that you would pay for on a per use at other resorts like rock climbing walls, prize bingo, kids clubs, etc.

Some AI's are no more than a meal plan with beverages.

Some are reasonably priced and don't penalize for single occupancy. When they do penalize they are obviously trying to supplement the regular room charge with the AI fee.

I own at Sandals Ocho Rios and they have a very reasonable AI fee of $900 per couple per week. For exchangers through RCI they won't pro-rate but for owners (and there guests) they do pro-rate the AI fee so a single person pays half the couple AI or $450 per week. They do not include the butler service, golf, spa, or scuba (all available at extra) but it does include meals, drinks, and activities at the resort and at $65 per person per day is reasonable. It is a very couple oriented adult only resort. But this doesn't mean that all the couples are always joined at the hip though. My DH is usually at the piano bar later than I am and he doesn't go on the snorkel trips that I go to during the day. He is also more likely to join in the volley ball or the beach soccer while I am in the shade by the pool or the ocean. I certainly don't enjoy getting hammered on vacation but it is nice sometimes to be able to order the fruity frozen drink by the pool or have a glass of wine with dinner without having to worry about an extra expense.
