Generally what they will do is charge you a few thousand dollars, or so, so that they can negotiate on your behalf with the resort to take possession of your unit. That's something you can do yourself for a lot less money. The resort might charge you closing costs and perhaps even the next maintenance fee but it will still work out to less money than paying a law firm to negotiate on your behalf.

If the resort does not want to take your unit back, try advertising that you want to give it away. You can advertise here on RedWeek, Craigslist, E-Bay, My Resort Network, Bid Shares, or Timeshare Users Group (aka "TUG"; tugbbs.com). Stipulate that you are willing to pay all transfer costs and even the next maintenance fee. You just might find a taker.
