I can't speak to whether "people" are still paying fees, but if / when maintenance fees are billed out, they generally have to be paid. That's the money that RUNS the place, after all. The bigger question / issue is whether or not hefty Special Assessments will ALSO be forthcoming in those instances where necessary repairs were not covered by insurance (remember "deductible" costs) and if financial "reserves" on hand are not adequate.
