I am a former timeshare sales and marketing executive who worked in Cancun and Los Cabos, Mexico for many years.
You can simply walk away for two reasons:
1. You own nothing. You do not have a deed, but simply "air." 2. There is nothing legally they can do to you from Mexico. It will not affect your credit. Do not pay anyone anything.
Except for Royal Resorts in Cancun, Mexico, resorts sell a right to use. Therefore, they can sell as many memberships as they desire without any legal ramifications. This is why so many owners have problems getting in as they have oversold their inventory many times over. Now they are charging resort fees or converting to all inclusive to generate new forms of profits.
Simply wriie the resort a nice letter to inform them that you no longer need their services. DONE!
I am curious what resort is it?
