Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

I made a purchase.............

Jul 24, 2007

Ok I have been surfing around for a few days well and asking all kinds of questions.

I used to own Worldmark and then it got charged off. I bought another one on the resale market but I want to see if it was a good buy.

How much is too much to pay for 10, 000 points. Anniversary month is March so right now I have 20,000 points of which 10,000 will have to be used before next March.

Thoughts?

You might want to look at your resort on the RedWeek "Timeshares for Rent & Sale" to see if anything comparable to your purchase is being offered there.

I'm puzzled by your statement that your original Worldmark property "got charged off." What does THAT mean?? Does it have something to do with the new relationship between Worldmark and Fairfield/Wyndham? You mention 10,000 points. These must be very different from FF/W points which would require 28,000 for a Blue time studio! What will your 10,000 buy? Where?

MD-

I meant charged off credit wise. I did not pay for it ( I was younger than I am now) I bought 10k worldmark credits. I have no idea what it would buy. From what I have been seeing, Worldmark owners have access to about 60 resorts.

Plus your access to all the resorts you want if you join an exchange company. II and RCI are two that contract with resorts to exchange for their members....but you need to pay to join.

There are several independent exchange companys that do not charge for basic membership. (And remember, Redweek is now doing exchanges) Some others are Dial An Exchange ( DAE) San Francisco Exchange ( SFX ) and a long list on the tug site.

I believe that Worldmark now has access to Fairfield/Wyndham resorts as well as the original Worldmarks. However, the points/credits are what tell you how much time and space you can reserve just as how much money you have limits how much you can buy at Sears, even though you have access to many Sears stores.

Flipping through my Fairfield directory, all the Worldmarks I've run across are 2 bedroom units. In Quiet season (lowest) they seem to be running 8,000 points per night, Sunday through Thursday and 18,500 per night Friday and Saturday. One is not usually allowed to reserve a single night.

However, your Worldmark points/credits may need to be converted to work with Fairfield in some way of which I have no knowledge. You really need to contact the resort at which you have your Worldmark contract to learn exactly where you stand and how you can use your ownership.

Unfortunately, this is a good example of the problems people may run into when they buy resale without first understanding A LOT about the resort or resort group they are buying into. GO to timeshare presentations, folks. Ask questions. Let them educate you! What you don't understand before you buy can cost you a lot more than 90 minutes--even it it does stretch into 3 hours. MD

Neither Worldmark credits or Wyndham Vacation Resorts (FF/Wyn) points transfer into each other. They are completely separate timeshare ownership programs.

I have been asking qustions MD, just did not know how my previous purchase would affect this current resale.

thanks

I don't know how many WorldMark resorts there are in total, but several are listed in the Fairfield/Wyndham's FairShare Plus Directory with points values such as already mentioned. Mutual availability may still be limited if some of the WorldMark owners have fixed weeks or other currently incompatable contracts, but you can probably count on being told about this if you attend a Fairfield or WorldMark presentation.
