Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Do people have any luck selling on this site???

Mar 26, 2008

Hello,

I have a week 41 even year deeded 3br and I have had it for like 3 or 4 years and never used it once. Want to sell, already got ripped off once paying upfront to REM (scammers). Anyone ever get their property sold on here, or just better luck renting it out on here? Thanks

There have been thousands of sold and rented timeshares on Redweek. It's the number timeshare ad site on the internet, however when selling one must be realistic about what they price their timeshare. Redweek has ove r1 million members.

Resales typically sell for approximately 1/3 to 1/4 of what was paid the developer (except for some higher end timeshares and some very popular locations = supply and demand), so keep that in mind when coming up with a price and price yours competitively from others if you want a quick sale.

You may also consider depositing your week with Redweek and look for a trade for another location. The WORST thing to do when owning a timeshare is NOTHING. You need to either use it yourself, deposit it for an exchange (Redweeks gives you 3 years to use your deposit) or rent it. When doing nothing, your maintenance fees are like throwing money down the toilet, however I've heard the same, "we don't use or do anything with our timeshare" thousands of times. I have to ask why people buy in the first place?

============ In addition to listing it for sale, you should list it for rent as well. At least you might be able to recover some or all of your maintenance fees. Do not limit your listings to RedWeek. Other sites are TUG, vacationtimesharerentals.com, myresortnetwork.com and you can even try bidshares.

RedWeek, TUG, and vacationtimesharerentals.com also have sections where people list Timeshare Wanted ads. There may be someone looking to buy or rent a unit similar to yours

If all else fails, you should start using or exchanging your TS for annual vacations. If I may ask, what is the name of your resort?

Thanks for your replies, not sure what you mean by I need to deposit it? Never heard that term before. Is that like trading it in for another one? I also sent an email to judi on here with remax to discuss selling it through her office. Anybody do that before?

=============== Yes, you would be "trading" the use of your TS for the use of another one. You "deposit" your week with one of the several exchange companies (RCI, Interval International, Redweek). Just so you are not confused, you still maintain ownership of your unit. The exchange gives you some flexibility to travel to other resorts around the world.

Please tell us the name of your resort; the various members here should be able to give you input as to the exchange possibilities, etc.

I have never sold a TS through Judi. She is a respected member of RedWeek and will give you an honest appraisal of your unit. While she does not charge an upfront fee, she does charge a commission on the sale.

============== Her contact information may have been deleted by RedWeek staff, but she has many listings for sale. Go to the "Timeshares for Rent & Sale" tab at the top of the page. Go to the ad for the HGVC at Hilton Hawaiian Village, in Honolulu (Judi handles many HGVC units). She has three or four of the unit that are listed for sale. You can contact her via the ad (you may need to be a RedWeek member, not a guest, to get the info). Judi is based out of Florida ( I think) and has many FL listings, so she is knowledgable on the resale market in that area as well.

You can also "google" her name and I'm sure her real estate company will pop-up.

I believe Patricia was looking for info from sw4 regarding possible purchase of the TS. Since the forum cannot be used for "advertising", RedWeek staff deleted the inquiry. If sw4 can post a For Sale ad and notify Patricia via this forum, maybe it might work out for both of them. Patricia, if you are serious about finding a 3 BR TS for $500 you may want to submit a RedWish. Good Luck to you both.

Hi

I have sold two Mexico timeshares that we had used or rented for 12 of the 30 years and the Maintainance fees were getting too high.

I assisted my sister in purchasing from this site and I have also rented to and from others several time.

It depends on the location, time of year and other factors. Look on the Redweek listing for your resort and check others pricing. Be in the ballpark and expect some offers of lesser amounts unless it is top of the line location.

I currently have a timeshare for sale and rent but was able to rent it quickly so using both listings is a great idea. Now I think I can make money renting it out.

Hey guys I'm back,

Sorry, been really busy with law school. My resort is Westgate Lakes in Orlando. I'm not trying to use this forum to advertise, just wanted to get input as to if advertising on here would be fruitful. I'm not sure depositing will do me any good, but I may try to rent it out. I just don't have the time to travel with leaving my job and going back to school. Before that, I didn't really have time with my Job. Not real sure why I purchased other than high pressure sales people and high pressure wife! LOL
