Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Newbie- has a question concerning purchasing at the same resort

Jun 30, 2008

I recently purchased a timeshare on ebay for a one bedroom unit in June. Just got back from there a couple of weeks ago from using it. We loved it. However it has only one bedroom and I would like to buy a two bedroom. They have different weeks available however I like my week 24 that I purchased. Say I bought another unit but in a different week can I exchange or go through RCI and get the 2 bedroom for week 24. The listing I am thinking about buy is in March. Any suggestion? What should I do? I hope this makes sense.

rhondaf42: I can't honestly say that your post makes a whole lot of sense to me, but the fact is that there will need to be a deposited 2BR available in week 24 at this resort for you to be able to "exchange into" in the first place. You will never really have any form of guaranty of a 2BR, week 24 availability, regardless of what other unit or week you might own and attempt to use for exchanging and regardless of whether the week you use for "trading" is at this same resort or somewhere else. I HOPE that answers what I THINK you're asking...

Where did you buy at? I know they will let you upgrade but to do that you will have to buy another timeshare. It depends on who you bought it from?Sometimes they will let you upgrade for more money. I have a 2bedroom even week 2bath .I can go if there is room. It is in Branson.

Hi

I own 4 Timeshares 3 at Sheraton-vistana Resort and 1 in Orange Lake. I always take 2 of these and exchange them with RCI for a 2 bedroom on the weeks that I want. Why don't you deposit your 1 bedroom with RCI or II and just exchange it for a 2 bedroom? I would say that week 24 will most likely far enough in advance be able to offer you a 2 bedroom without having to purchase a 2nd 2 bedroom. What resort did you buy in as that will dictate the availablity as to whether other weeks would be available through the exchange companies. Does this make sense?

Just another thought, before you also decide to purchase another timeshare depending on where this first one is located go on RCI or REDWEEK and take a look at the availability for different times of the year. If you see only a few timeshares for exchange or rent then you will most likely have a problem trying to get a 2nd exchange week at prime time. Several places like Orlando availablity is endless with the RCI companies but if you have a waterfront property further south or in the islands then its difficult to exchange and can be disappointing if your purpose is to exchange so make sure you "DO YOUR HOMEWORK " on this 2nd one prior to purchase if your plan is to exchange it . Sometimes when you weigh the financial end of it it might be better to just go on Redweek and pick up the 2nd week for your family on a rental as you will still have to pay your fees and exchange remember. Always do an availablity search first . What I do is print our the RCI pages on certain weeks year to year and keep them in a binder and date them so that I can refer back to that time frame for the next year and see what was available and the amount of units the also speeds up my decision as to when to rent. Hope this helps. Never be afraid to ask questions Newbie or not thats what we are here for . Enjoy !
