Interested in renting timeshare in Napa for Thanksgiving

Aug 11, 2008

I don't have much experience in timeshares, but I am interested in renting a timeshare in Napa Valley (I think there are two resorts) for the week of Thanksgiving 2008 or some time around then. I'm not sure if that's even likely. From what I've seen, that is week 47.

I see "floating" timeshares for rent, but how do I know if I could use those that week before renting?

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

alexn19 states /asks in relevant part: >>I see "floating" timeshares for rent, but how do I know if I could use those that week before renting?<< ============================================= In a floating week ownership, the owner has the option to reserve one week during the calendar year. In all likelihood, most float owners have already (long ago) reserved their 2008 week (there are, after all, now only about 18 weeks remaining in all of CY 2008).

My bet is that, at this late date, you probably have very little chance of renting a specific week (a holiday week, at that) in a specific location with (according to your post, anyhow) only 2 timeshare resorts, when your inquiry is made only about 12 weeks in advance of your specific week of interest --- **UNLESS** you happen to find an advertised rental which clearly indicates that this particular week is already reserved and is now being offered for rent by its' owner.

My suggestion would be to look up the two specific resorts you apparently already know about right here on RedWeek (use the gold colored "Timeshares for Rent or Sale" button above and walk through the geographic area selections). In so doing, you will very easily see if the week you want is being advertised for rent here. However, unless I'm mistaken, you can't actually view those listings at all unless you are a RedWeek member. It may well be worth the $12 expense to you to become a member, in order to see more information than you can see as a "guest" --- including the very specific info you require to obtain a clear answer to your inquiry.

You could also call the resorts directly, to see if any owners have put their units up for rent for that week through the resort. Be prepared that even if available, resort rental figures will ALWAYS be MUCH higher than renting from an owner.

You can also post a "Want to Rent" Redwish, identifiyng your specific week, geographic area, date and unit size requirements and see if you get any responses that way. There is a small fee to post Redwishes, however.

P.S. I don't work for RedWeek and I certainly don't care whether you join RedWeek. I'm not on commission --- I'm merely pointing out an avenue by which to see more information on this particular site than you are able to see if you are not actually a RedWeek member already. Good luck.

Thank you! That's a very helpful response.

I can see how the structure of timeshares is not all that conducive to renting them out. I mean, how can a non-timeshare person rent a floating week without knowing when they can use it?

You might put your request under RedWishes.

You're quite welcome. I think that you may not fully understand the nature of a rental which advertises indicating "floating" ownership. A non-owner can never just rent a "floating" week until that "floating" week's owner has turned that "floating week" ownership into a confirmed reservation for a specific week. Owners advertising rentals without dates, indicating only "float" ownership, really mean that they will then ATTEMPT to reserve the particular week you seek and then rent it to you. The problem with this "renter's choice" approach is that prime weeks must be reserved long, long in advance. Most owners of "float" weeks who intend to rent out their weeks don't leave the choice in the hands of prospective (or late inquiring) renters. Instead, they make their best assessment of a prime rental week, reserve it, and THEN advertise it for rent with the dates identified.

I don't know if you are with II but they have one listed now on their getaway program for Nov 22,2008.

Its in Windsor Ca and called the Worldmark Windsor!

Two bedroom sleeps six and goes for $629 if your Gold or $654 if not.

Windsor is a ways in time but not miles because of the wine country drive.

Hi Phil: I got the impression that the OP is not currently a timeshare owner. Therefore (unless I'm mistaken), the OP can't be an II member or have access to II Getaways. While RCI allows non-owners to buy RCI memberships (or at least they used to, anyhow), as far as I know that's NOT the case with II.

That "Getaway" sounds like a good deal though...

Ken,I didn't see he didn't own but I did not read every post here so you would be right. (I did read now what sounds like he is not a timeshare owner.)

You need to be with II for these great deals that get offered!

He said there were two timeshares in Napa and I only found one so other must be with RCI. I wasn't thrilled with the Napa resort but to me Napa just not that great.

Its not so much Napa but the wine country that is great and Windsor is a great town to walk around and enjoy yourself. They can always drive to Napa and walk around.

There is a great resort (NOT-TIMESHARE) for golf outside of Napa but I don't remember the name.

There are two timeshares in Napa currently. One in the River Pointe, the other is Vino Bello. Both are listed as 5 star with II, but they are both very different. River Pointe, is a series of trailers, they are 1 bedroom units with a small kitchen and regular bath, no jacuizzi, but there is a pool on site. River Pointe is located in Napa, between the Silverado Trail and route 29. The two main roads for Napa wineries. You are also 12 miles from Sonoma. The other is Vino Bella, still under construction and a Shell Vacation Property. This resort is conected to the Mertiage Hotel. The one bedroom unit has a full kitchen, fireplace, large shower with multiple heads and a jacuzzi tub. The resort has a spa attached, but is only accessible to resort users for a fee. This resort is located 5 miles outside of Napa in an Industrial Park. I'm writing this after returning from Napa, I've stayed at both resorts, it depends on your preference. Yopu could rent them from people here on Redweek or contact the resorts directly, both resorts will allow you to rent for less than 1 week.
