You have received an "apples and oranges" reply from barbaram11 above. You likely already know that some "corporate / company / chain" timeshare outfits (like Marriott, Wyndham, and others) have very specific internal priortities for owner reservations and exchanges. Westgate may not, but that has no relevance at all to whether or not Royal does or not --- they are entirely different companies. I recommend that you draw any conclusions ONLY from information received directly from a current "Royal" owner. No disrespect is intended toward barabaram11 or her well intentioned reply, but her Westgate resale purchase and experience is completely irrelevant to your particular Royal ownership privileges question, since they are entirely different, completely unrelated companies.
Resale purchase is always much less expensive that developer-direct; that much is obvious and certain. However, YOUR question is clearly about the differences (if any) in privileges and priorities available to owners within one specific company, when comparing resale vs. developer-direct purchases for that particular company's "product". Any answer or information offered about one company is neither relevant nor necessarily the same as pertains to an entirely different company.
Anyway, if you are a TUG (Timeshare Users Group) member, a specific inquiry posted there would likely be seen by many thousands more readers than here on RedWeek, thereby increasing the likelihood of a well informed reply directly from an actual "Royal" owner. There is also a whole lot of very current discussion over there about Royal Holiday Club (and its' recent, unwelcome special assessments), but I don't claim for a moment to know if there is even any particular link between RHC and the Royal Resorts you mention.
