Has anyone been successful in raffling a timeshare? I have 35,000 points (floating) elite member status at Diamond Resorts (formally Sunterra). Roughly 6 - 7 weeks of vacation on average. I have 2 small children under 5 that have very bad allergies, so we won't be going much of anywhere until they grow out of them, about 8 years for the youngest. So I can't see paying maint $$ and not using it. Not having any luck renting. Any interest in such?

For starters, if you raffle off the timeshare AND keep the proceeds, I'm pretty sure it's a violation of state gambling laws. However, you might be able to offer to a local church or civic group to raffle off.

A guy at a local parish raffled off his Cape Cod TS with the proceeds going to the church. People were buying tickets, but I have know idea if they realized they were going to win the unit (along with annual MFs, etc) and not just win one week. I also don't know who paid for the closing costs.

On a side note, I think you can use your points to book weeks at Diamond resorts and then rent those weeks. So, if all else fails, go that route to try and recover some of your MF.
