How does payment normaly occure ?

May 13, 2009

I am renting for the first time. The tenant wants 1/2 upfront etc. Do I send a check which I am not certain about or can I go thru paypal or a secure transaction site?

If you've satisfied with your due diligence, then a check is fine. If you use ABT through paypal, I really don't know how much protection you get. Paying by credit card through Paypal will protect you a bit more, but that protection is from your CC, not PayPal. However, since many CC charges have to be disputed within a short period of time (60 days for some), but the time a person finds out he/she's been scammed it may be too late to dispute. Obviously the best protection is via an escrow company. If the owner is agreeable, then go this route, but be prepared to pay the entire fee.

I've rented my units a few times; each time the renter contacted me by phone and I've given them permission to contact the resort to insure the unit is in my name.

Good Luck
