Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

One more reason to be wary about paying upfront fees

May 20, 2009

There is an article on KTTC making reference to a woman who gave a company $1800 to sell her timeshare. She's never heard from them since they collected her money and now the authorities are involved. I tried to post the link but it wouldn't work. It's a very short article but it again shows what can happen.

Here is the actual article from KTTC (it's the NBC affiliate in Rochester, Minnesota).

ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC-DT) -- A lesson to beware of who you trust on the Internet.

Rochester police say a local woman was swindled while trying to sell her timeshare at Christmas Mountain Village in the Wisconsin Dells.

The 39-year-old woman wanted to sell her vacation property on landmarktimeshares.com, a business she found on the Internet.

The woman sent in $1,800 in March and was promised the money would be sent back once her timeshare sold.

When the woman never heard back from the company, she called police in Waltham, Massachusetts where the business is located.

Investigators say they have gotten a lot of complaint calls about Landmark Timeshares.

More of these types of scams need to be reported to the authorities, the media and the Attorney General in the state in which the scam was located, but most people just sit by idly thinking a miracle will happen and they'll get their money back ...... it won't happen so doing nothing only encourages the scums to set up shop in a different location with a different name and phone number and start all over again.

They are nothing but thieves and need to be in prison along with all the other criminals.

I like what you said in a different posting.

If they already have your money, there is no incentive for them to sell your timeshare.
