Switching from one time share to another.

Good day, I have been searching and searching on the internet for any resource I can find with help on a proposal I had at my last time share presentation. Hopefully you can provide me some help or a suggestion where I can go to find information.

Basically I have a time share in Puerto Vallarta. I was staying in the Villa de Palmar and was offered by them to "buy" my current time share and write it off on their books as a loss if I would agree to a new contract with them. I turned them down as there was simply too much information to digest at once but am planning on another visit in January and would seriously like to consider this option (my time share is too small and the maintenance fees too high therefor I would like to get out of it).

Don't fall for the sales spiel of the timeshare sales people. They will tell you anything (including bold-faced lies) to get you to buy. They will not buy/take your current timeshare from you. If you fall for their babbling, when all is said and done, you will own 2 costly, unwanted timeshares that will be hard to even give away.

If you want to get rid of your current timeshare, remember the cardinal rule: Never, ever pay anyone a large, upfront fee to sell, rent out, market, or "cancel" your timeshare.

Try to list it in the Bargain Basement here on RedWeek. Maybe even offer to pay the closing costs.

I belong to the NTOA, national timeshare owners association. It's anorganization of timeshare owners sharing information about owners rights and obligations. With your membership you get a subscription to Timesharing Today that has a lot of valuable information. Their website is www.nationaltimeshareownersassoc.com. You can also contact the president Ed Hastry at hastry@aol.com. That's where I got the information I needed to get rid of two timeshares. They have forums dealing with every aspect of the industry.
