Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

I think we were scammed!

Dec 20, 2011

Two years ago we were at a presentation at Hacienda del Mar. We wanted to buy another year, and the salesperson told us it now cost $29,000.00 for another EOY unit. We were skeptical, but ultimately allowed the salesperson to give us a "credit" of $22,000 for our Marriott Ko Olina time share . We were to pay the rest. Last month we were at the resort again and discovered that the total price of the unit was what we paid out of pocket. They had no record of the contract for the $22,000.00 credit. We found it at home. Since that time I have been trying to find out what happened to that resort. WE know another person now owns it, that one of the salespeople received a check for $8, 3000.00, but we have received NOTHING> Is there anyplace we can go to get some help?????

If you have proof of the $22,000 credit then you should contact the resort immediately showing that proof. I'm somewhat confused when you said you're "trying to find out what happened to the resort .... we know another person now owns it" .... owns what ????

The title to our Marriott was signed over to another person, so they are now the owner. The contract with the "credit" that we have was from a title company that is now out of business. The original time share company says that because they don't have the contract in their files, it isn't valid for them.

I think it's time for you to consult an attorney to straighten out your mess. You better find out where your money went and if you still own the property and are responsible for the fees.

We know we no longer own the property, nor do we owe maintenance fees. We just don't know where the money went. We are seriously considering hiring an attorney. I'm waiting to see if the people who received the money respond to my letters or e-mails(which I am doubtful) and if not, an attorney is the next step. Thanks.

With that much money involved I would most certainly hire an attorney.

Thanks. I think that's what we will do. It really is a lot of money, especially for two retired teachers.
