Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Interested in my week...what do I do next?

Dec 30, 2011

How do you handle an interested party in renting your week? Do you have them send a check or have them send it to PayPal account?

You must have a contract in place signed by both the renter and you .... you can search forums for a 'sample rental contract' .... it will list details involving your rental.

I'm also in the process of waiting for the contract to rent my timeshare. Once it all goes through, how do I notify the resort that I am sending someone in my place? I don't want there to be any problems for the people once they get down there.

I called my timeshare and they advised me to let them know of the name of the person staying in my unit. They also said that I should have a rental agreement stipulating should there be any damages to the unit, they would be responsible for them. Hope this helps.

In regards to renters, your resort should be giving you a confirmation with your name on it and with the guest(renter) you are having. For any reason the renter does not come through with the money in time, you have the authorization to cancel the reservation. This depends on the amount of time you have from inquirey and check in dates. Registered cheques are safer, but often will be held for 10 days by your bank, especially if you live in Canada and them in the States. Renters also want some assurance that they have the week requested and it is for real. The resort confirmation is an asset along with the rental agreement.
