Buying, Renting, and Selling Timeshares

Would you sell your timeshare like this? Or is this a scam?

Aug 03, 2011

I own a timeshare in Orlando and a friend of mine there just listed his timeshare there with a broker who is going to try and sell it for him. The deal is my friend has to give up his time so the broker can let prospective buyers stay there. There is no other costs or upfront fees. If the place sells, they split the money 50/50 (they already agreed on a price range they want to try and get for it).

Apparenlty, the 50% the broker gets is to pay for finding prospective buyers and going through the sales stuff with them and trying to sell it.

Does this sound like a scam to you? I've read about all the rip-off resales companies online and I'm wondering if this sounds like a legitimate deal.

Please let me know what you think because I'm thinking about listing my place with this guy. Would you give up your week for a chance to sell your place?

If you own only one week a year how can prospective buyer(S) stay there.

I would not commit to anything now .... I would wait and see how it works out with your friend.

Most legitimate brokers only charge a maximum 20% commission or $1000 whichever is greater.

Didn't you ask this exact same question on Timeshare Users Group (TUG) last summer?
