From what I have been reading, it seems to me, that being a serial renter has more advantages than being a timeshare owner.

I would like to hear other opinions, and if Im mistaken, tell me why.

Cheers

I agree with that statement. Years ago I would have disagreed but the industry has changed for the worse in my opinion. Shy rocketing maintenance fees and assessments has made timeshare ownership less attractive. The conversion of timeshares to points has led to less availability of bookings. The exchange companies taking more desireable properties out of exchange programs and renting them to the public has destroyed a lot of the excahange incentives. You can find many rentals on this site and others for timeshare units for less than the yearly maintenance fees without the obligation of paying the never ending increases. Why own when you can have all the benefits and none of the obligations.

I agree with everything donp posted above and some timeshares are even being given away .... check out Redweek's Bargain Basement.

You can peruse the Bargain Deals (above), but you have to be a Redweek member to contact an ad owner .... you can join Redweek for $14.99 a year to do this ..... it would be worth it if you find something that you could use ..... however none are really free even at the cost of zero, since you still have to pay maintenance fees each year, but many people paid a developer big bucks initially.
